2012 Events

15-17 October 2012 Agile Development for Healthcare

Berlin, Germany "Tutorial: Look Before You Leap, or Leap Before You Look? Agile Mini-Plays from Regulated Life-Science Software"

Workshop Faciliators: Nancy Van Schooenderwoert and Brian Shoemaker

When: Workshop Day, 15 October

Three mini-plays illustrated common scenarios in FDA-regulated businesses:

  • "But FDA requires a waterfall method, doesn't it?"
  • "But Agile doesn't have hazard analysis!"
  • "What about design reviews?"
It's a myth that Agile teams don't plan, or don't document. They do more of these than traditional teams! But it's done in such a way that so much confusion and rework are saved that the net savings is truly astonishing— far beyond the investment made in planning and documenting. The key is how you interleave planning and doing, and in how you manage the group dynamics, both within the team, and beyond it.

29 August 2012 Agile Lean Europe 2012

Barcelona, Spain "Agile Contracting the Good Parts"

Speakers: David Campey, Robert Feigin, Steve Holyer & Nancy Van Schooenderwoert

This session presented real-world issues encountered when an agile business produces software for clients. Can you require your customer to correctly fulfill a Product Owner role? Is an iteration commitment a guarantee? What should go in the SOW and what belongs in the contract? We discussed practical ways to use contracts for Agile work.

13-17 August 2012 Agile 2012

Dallas, TX, USA "Agile FDA Mini-Plays, Mosh Pit Style"

Co-Presenters: Nancy Van Schooenderwoert and Brian Shoemaker, Principal Consultant at Shoebar Associates

In the FDA-regulated world, resistance to using Agile methods is still strong. We've turned several of the typical objections from quality and regulatory managers in the FDA-regulated industry into role-play sessions, both to explain the reason for the objection and to describe how well-managed Agile teams can answer it.

By modeling the conversations you may need to have, we help you understand, not just the FDA rules, but the thinking behind those rules. Our role play isn't a "closed shop"— you can jump in too, and get your questions addressed.

21-25 May 2012 XP2012

Malmo, Sweden "XP2012: Agile by Design": Thirteenth International Conference on Agile Software Development.

Lean-Agile Partners' role in this conference celebrated the intentional application of agile strategy and practices to promote not only effective but innovative systems development.

This 12-minute video shows how this conference was different from any other.

19-21 April 2012 Boston Agile Games 2012

Microsoft NERD Center, Cambridge, MA, USA Nancy Van Schooenderwoert led a session of her "Lean Workflow Design" game, which was voted one of the most popular games at the previous year's event. This was an open space conference, so new games were invented and offered on the spot.

16-17 April 2012 Scandanavian Developer Conference

Göteborg Convention Centre (Svenska Mässan), Mässans gata 24, Göteborg, Sweden Nancy Van Schooenderwoert gave two talks at the SDC2012 conference, on the west coast of Sweden:

"Embedded Storycrafting: Key to controlling Risk and Schedule".

16 April 2012, 14:40 - 15:30

In this session, Nancy used examples from embedded systems development to show how well-written Agile stories can synchronize the work of multiple specialist teams in larger projects.

"No Bugs"

17 April 2012, 17:00 - 18:00

"Agile" is known for speed and high quality. If you aim for super high quality, you get speed as a side effect. But if you aim for high speed you will not get high quality as a side effect. This case study showed how that idea works in real world projects.

17-20 February 2012 Play4Agile

Rückersbach, Germany Play4Agile Open Space Conference

A gathering for Agile and Lean coaches, experienced facilitators, and game experts who want to exchange questions, ideas, and experiences on using games in teams and organisations.

Since this was an open space conference, the nature of the sessions (including that by Nancy Van Schooenderwoert) were decided at the start of the event.
